How do I discover information about these shims (the only shims I've dealt with before were the ones used to fix the 4wd on my truck ;-) )?
When I was talking to the support folks, they didn't mention any such shims (they commented on smart card support, which I knew about--but nothing to lead me to the shims you're mentioning).
Note: Adding SmartCards is tricky--I did it and, when we quit using them, I had to get a special tool to "fix" my ID file (I was getting a lot of errors due to remnants of the SmartCard add-ins). From that experience, a concern I have is that, if we add SmartCard support to IDs, then use them for years (rolling keys, etc.), then we need to remove the shim--Notes has proven to handle this in a most ungraceful manner.
Note2: As for CAPI, I generally sympathize with the issues surrounding proprietary interfaces/APIs and wish they weren't so common--but, unfortunately, am stuck with what I have...
